How do you write professional content that connects with your audience?
The first step is understanding what they care about.
But often when you know a lot about a subject it can be hard to get enough distance to see things from your audience’s point of view.
As a writer, editor and publisher I’ve worked with lawyers, academics and other professionals to help them turn their research and expertise into articles, how-to guides, blog posts, infographics, podcast scripts.
Blogs and articles
Distilling complex technical issues into a short engaging blog post or article is hard. But if you can explain how the issue affects your clients and why they should care, you’re on the way to building their trust and standing out from your competitors.
If you have already started a blog, you might be realising just how much time it can take away from your client work to come up with enough words to keep it fresh and current.
I’ve spent many years in content marketing teams, writing feature articles and blogs and producing regular client newsletters.
Whether you have the ideas and just need help getting them written down, or you need help coming up with interesting angles – let’s discuss your plan.
Guides, checklists and flowcharts
How valuable would your clients find a quick how-to guide, template or checklist they could turn to every time they needed to perform a particular task? I can help you break down the processes and distil your expertise to turn it into practical value that can bring you lots of client love.
Producing a more substantial piece of writing or research can be a great way to get in front of your clients. But if you’ve never tackled a project like this before, just knowing where to start can be overwhelming.
Finding the time just to get the words down on the page can be challenging enough. Often the material you are working with is dense academic or legal information and you will need to rewrite it for a broader audience.
And then there’s the editing, revising, referencing proofreading, design and layout.
Would it be nice if someone else could take all that off your hands?
I have managed all kinds of legal writing and publishing projects, from legal encyclopaedias, to text books, reviews, reports and discussion papers, and I can guide you through the entire process.
You want your work to sound like you, but you just don’t have the time to commit to writing – between client work, business development, business admin and finding time for the rest of your life. There is a solution. I often work with legal and medico-legal experts to produce articles for their clients.
I can work from their notes, or interview them about the issues they are seeing and why these are important. Then I’ll suggest a way of framing the story and do some additional research or fact-checking if necessary. I will draft the article for them to review and we will revise it until they’re happy to put their name to it.
Maybe you have the ideas and just need help getting them written down, or you need help coming up with interesting angles.
Whatever you have in mind
